If You Like Bananas, Eat 'Em While They're Still Around

I don't like them myself, so I won't miss them, but if bananas are your thing, you'd better get them while you can, since  a horrible fungus called "Tropical Race Four" might wipe out the one variety of banana everyone eats (the Cavendish), in just a few short years:
Tropical Race Four appeared in Taiwan in the late eighties, and destroyed roughly seventy per cent of the island’s Cavendish plantations. In Indonesia, more than twelve thousand acres of export bananas were abandoned; in Malaysia, a local newspaper branded the disease “the H.I.V. of banana plantations.” When the fungus reached China and the Philippines, the effect was equally ruinous. Australia was next.
And it's only a matter of time before it reaches South America, while supplies the U.S. with practically all of its bananas. Sorry to be the bearer of bad banana news.
